50 Years in Business!

CENTURY 21 GALLOWAY REALTY
CELEBRATES 50 YEARS IN BUSINESS

It all started back in the mid 60’s , when Tom Galloway started out by selling real estate and insurance. He operated independently out of his home with his wife Bridget who later passed away in 1982. He opened his own agency, Galloway Real Estate, and his one-man office was located on East 7th Street in Oswego. He received encouragement from many local people and worked long and hard and gradually the business grew, he purchased a Realty World Franchise and expanded to 12 agents. Tom was also Chief Tax Assessor for the City of Oswego.

Tom purchased some vacant land with the idea of becoming a new home developer and eventually purchased “The Cornerstone Restaurant” which is now “Bridie Manor” along with the land surrounding the waterfront and the old Varick Canal. Eventually, that same land was purchased by Bill Galloway and Tom Dunsmoor and it is where the current Century 21 Galloway Office now sits, along with 9 upscale apartments on the river and a physical therapy office.

Tom purchased the Century 21 Real Estate Franchise from retiring Broker Harold Wallace and never looked back. He served as President of the Oswego County Board of Realtors. He also developed Fairview Terrace, Woodridge, Crestwood and Crestwood South, which includes around 70 homes for Oswego which added over 32 million dollars of assessment to the Oswego City, County and School property tax rolls. Looking back Tom says that he is proud of what he and his family have accomplished starting with nothing but a dream, and a lot of hard work with the help trust and friendship of many local professionals in Oswego.

Bill Galloway retired from his job with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp and came in and grew the business. He spent 10 years with NIMO but had real estate experience while working for his father and has had his real estate license since he was 18 years old. In 1994 Bill and Elaine purchased Century 21 Galloway Realty from Tom. At that time, the office was located at 351 West First Street in Oswego. In 2001, Bill’s wife Elaine, also retired from Niagara Mohawk after 19 years to join the family business full time, as Business Manager. In 2006, Century 21 Galloway Realty moved to its current location at 7 Bridie Square. Since then, the agency has doubled its number of agents, which is currently over 20.

The business has changed considerably over the years. Galloway said, “In the past, agencies didn’t even share information but today, everybody has the knowledge right at their fingertips with computers. You have to keep pace with changing technology”. Galloway said, “Strong leadership is essential in order to successfully run a real estate agency. “You have to make sure that everybody is working as a team and that transactions come off as smoothly as possible”. We have the most experienced agents working for us in the business,” Galloway said. “They perform and do the quality service work that they are hired to do. That puts us a step ahead of everybody.” “We do not have turnover in our office and our agents are top-notch agents. Without our agents, we wouldn’t be here for 50 years. We provide our clients with top quality service and we are very proud that we consistently receive the highest level of awards within the Century 21 System.” The Office has received the Century 21 Quality Service Pinnacle Award for the last six years in a row. That comes directly from the clients when they receive a survey after every transaction.

Social Media is also very important to Century 21 Galloway Realty. The Century 21 System provides access to all social media along with many other training tools. Social media is a great way to reach out to our clients. Galloway grew up in Oswego and stayed with Oswego because he felt it was important to give back to the community. Galloway said, “Our market never dropped when the market dropped in most areas of the country and we remained stable the entire time. We have consistently increased our sales each year, and remain very active”. Over the last 10 years,

Century 21 Galloway Realty has been the number one realtor in the County for both residential and commercial sales. In 2014 the business generated about 38 million in sales volume and over the past three years has been involved in more than 400 transactions. Elaine Galloway said that “Bill learned from his dad and then put that knowledge, plus his own together. He believes in working hard, being honest and providing the best service he can to his clients to make their real estate experience be the best that it can be. He is willing to help anyone at any time of the day, any day of the week.” Elaine helps the office stay on top of technology with her computer skills and knowledge that she learned while working at Niagara Mohawk. Elaine said, “I love working with technology and making sure that we provide our agents with as much as we can to stay on top of a very busy business. Our agents have great tools in our office to help make their jobs easier.”

Bill and Elaine hope that their business continues to grow in different ways. They have two sons in college, Ryan 24 and Brandan 22. Brandan works at Century 21 Galloway Realty assisting Elaine in her job and Ryan is in the process of getting his real estate license. Bill said, “They are getting the feel for the business and have grown up with it just as I have. If that is what they want, then they will have that opportunity”, noting he would be pleased to see the family name going for another 50 years. “Being in business for 50 years is a big accomplishment and the Galloway family is proud, and we look forward to providing top quality service to the community for all of their real estate needs for many years to come”.
